What is a 'Carbon Footprint'? A carbon footprint is a measure of the impact human activities have on the environment, specifically, the amount of green house gases produced, measured in units of carbon dioxide. We use electricity and hardware to run your websites, but we offset the effects by buying into green energy and we plant a tree for every client we take on in a effort to become carbon neutral - we are committed to this process long-term, are you? For every new client we plant a tree in our home county of Norfolk. We expect to plant around 100 trees per year and offset about 730,000 kg of CO2 each year. About 10 trees will offset the effects of one person and around 100 trees will offset the carbon footprint of one of our servers. We use a firm called Carbon Footprint to plant our trees for us. Wintercorn are strongly committed to offsetting our carbon emissions. The objective of using carbon offsets is to balance our web servers' release of carbon dioxide by using a combination of products, practices and resources that save an equivalent (and likely additional) amount of CO2. Carbon offsets allow us to take responsibility and to mitigate CO2 emissions from our everyday business activities. |
