We've done a clear out of the server and updated all the bits that needed it. We've also installed a whizzy new search engine friendly URL creator on this and other sites . You can see it in action on any of the site links.

It means that instead of a long URL like:

http://www.wintercorn.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=23&Itemid=33

You can use:

http://www.wintercorn.com/about-wintercorn.web

Which is much shorter, easier to remember and quote over the 'phone and the file extension can be customised for your particular business or industry. You could have .art / .vet / .whatever

It means that we can include specific key words in URLs and optimise your pages for those key words, thereby helping you rank a little higher than your competition.

Does the funky extension have any actual effect on search engine rankings?

Not likely, otherwise everyone would be doing it. It just looks cool.
