nca logoThe UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA) has issued a warning to UK online banking consumers to guard against the possibility of having been infected by the Dridex malware, also known as Cridex and Bugat, stating that there could be ‘thousands of infected computers’ in the UK. The NCA are joining with the FBI in the United States to ‘sinkhole’ the botnet which is responsible for the spread of the malware. The report indicates that Windows users are the primary targets of the attacks.

The Dridex malware is a new strain of the Cridex breed, and infects users via macro actions which launch when opening infected documents which are often sent as spam emails about invoices, parcel delivery notes and fake banking alerts.

dmca logoEvery now and again we get clients who want to use images they 'find' on Google for their blog or news posts without realising that they can't actually do that.

We have prevented them so far but this blog post is a sobering reminder of what can happen if you get caught - and the chances are quite high that you will.

amazonwebservicesAs cloud computing has emerged as the new paradigm for computing at scale, Amazon has firmly established itself as the dominant player.

After effectively creating the public cloud market with the launch of Amazon Web Services in 2006, the retailer has built AWS into a $6 billion a year business.

Amazon operates at least 30 data centers in its global network, with another 10 to 15 on the drawing board. Amazon doesn’t disclose the full scope of its infrastructure, but third-party estimates peg its U.S. data center network at about 600 megawatts of IT capacity.

CopWebsites are already able to serve up ads customized for whoever happens to be viewing a page. Now an ad agency in Russia is taking that idea one step further with an outdoor billboard that’s able to automatically hide when it spots the police coming.

With the aid of a camera and facial recognition software, the technology was slightly tweaked to instead recognize the official symbols and logos on the uniforms worn by Russian police. And as they approached the billboard featuring the advertisement for Don Giulio Salumeria’s imported Italian goods, it would automatically change to an ad for a Matryoshka doll shop instead.
